Shopify SEO and AI search

Shopify SEO services for Google and AI search

Rolling Pandas is a Shopify agency and Shopify Select Partner. Our Shopify SEO services fix the technical problems Shopify stores share, write the collection and product pages that match what shoppers search, and work to get your brand named in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity.

For Shopify and Shopify Plus brands doing roughly $500k to $10M a year. From $3,500 a month, as one department of The Rolling Team. Google now puts an AI answer above the links for many searches, so ranking is only half the job. The other half is being the store that answer names.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO for how Shopify works

Shopify technical SEO means fixing what the platform does by default: duplicate product URLs under collections, filtered collection pages, partial structured data, slow themes and missing redirects.

  1. Duplicate product URLs under collections

Shopify serves every product at /products/name and again at /collections/name/products/name. The canonical tag points to the first, but many themes link to the second, so Google crawls both. We change the theme's links to the canonical address.

  2. Filtered collection pages

Filters and sorting add parameters that can turn one collection into thousands of near-identical URLs. We check what Shopify's robots.txt already blocks, extend it where needed, and turn the filters people actually search for into collection pages of their own.

  3. Structured data

Product, Offer, BreadcrumbList, Organization and FAQ markup that matches what the page shows. Themes and apps often add partial or duplicate markup. We merge it into one clean block and test it in Google's Rich Results Test.

  4. Speed and Core Web Vitals

Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and layout shift, measured on real visitors in Search Console. On Shopify the usual causes are app scripts on every page, oversized images and heavy theme JavaScript, and we fix them in the theme code.

  5. Internal links

Collections link to their subcollections, products link back to their collection, guides link to the products they mention, and breadcrumbs show the path. Search engines and AI crawlers find and weigh your pages through these links.

  6. Redirects after a migration

Every old URL needs a 301 redirect to its new Shopify address before launch. Our migrations to Shopify keep SEO this way. For stores that moved before, we find the broken redirects, chains and 404s that Search Console reports and fix them.

Collections and products

Content for collections and products

Collection and product pages win most of a Shopify store's search traffic, because they match what shoppers type: a category, a product type or a problem to solve.

  1. One search per page

Keyword research mapped to your catalog, so each collection targets its own search and two pages never compete for the same one.

  2. Collection pages

A short intro above the products and a buying guide below them, written for the search behind the collection, with its own title and meta description.

  3. Product pages

Your own descriptions in place of the manufacturer's, specs in metafields, image alt text, and answers to what shoppers ask about size, materials and delivery.

  4. Guides that sell

Buying guides and comparisons that answer research questions, then link to the collections that answer them with products.

  5. Titles at catalog scale

Title and meta description templates built from your product data for large catalogs, written by hand for the pages that matter most.

How we measure

Measured in clicks, rankings and AI answers

We measure Shopify SEO with Google Search Console, keyword rankings and AI answer checks, and report all three every month.

  • Google Search Console

Clicks, impressions, the queries and pages behind them, indexing problems and Core Web Vitals. We record a baseline in the first week, so every change has something to compare against.

  • Rankings

A tracked list of the searches that matter for your collections and products, checked every week, so a drop is caught before it shows in revenue.

  • AI answer checks

A fixed set of buyer questions, asked the same way every month in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. We record whether your store is named, whether it is linked, and which sources the answers cite.

  • Orders from search

Organic sessions, orders and revenue in Shopify's analytics and Google Analytics, so the report ends with what the work earned.

Nobody controls where Google or an AI assistant places a store, and we will never claim to. What we control is the work: shipped every week, measured every month and reported honestly.

Shopify SEO questions

What does a Shopify SEO expert do?

A Shopify SEO expert makes a Shopify store easier to find in Google and AI answers. That means fixing technical problems in the theme, such as duplicate product URLs and filtered collection pages, writing collection and product content that matches real searches, adding structured data, improving speed and measuring the results in Search Console.

Does Shopify offer SEO services?

Shopify gives you the tools, not the work. Every store gets editable titles, meta descriptions and URLs, an automatic sitemap, canonical tags and an editable robots.txt. Shopify does not optimize your store for you. That is done by you, a freelancer or a Shopify Partner agency like Rolling Pandas.

How do I choose a Shopify SEO agency?

Ask how they handle Shopify's own problems, such as product URLs under collections and filtered pages. Check that they can change your theme code themselves, ask how they measure results, and read their reviews on Shopify's Partner Directory and Clutch. Be careful with any agency that promises a fixed position in Google.

How do you audit a Shopify store's SEO?

We check indexing and errors in Search Console, crawl the store for duplicate and filtered URLs, test structured data, measure Core Web Vitals, list broken redirects and 404s, and review titles, internal links and collection content. Then we rank the fixes by how many pages each one helps. It is the first week of our SEO work.

How much do Shopify SEO services cost?

With Rolling Pandas, Shopify SEO and AI search is the Focus plan of The Rolling Team, from $3,500 a month, month to month. It includes weekly priorities, releases every week and a monthly report.

How long does Shopify SEO take to work?

Technical fixes are usually picked up within weeks, once Google recrawls the pages. New collection and product content typically takes three to six months to show in traffic. We report every month, so you can see the progress as it happens.

What is AI search optimization for Shopify?

It is the work of getting your store named when someone asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews or Perplexity what to buy. It builds on SEO and adds a consistent brand description across the web, an llms.txt file, FAQ markup, and reviews and mentions on the sources AI answers cite.

Will moving my store to Shopify hurt my SEO?

Not if every old URL is redirected to its new Shopify address and titles, descriptions and content come across. That is how we run every migration to Shopify, from WooCommerce, Magento, Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce and other platforms.
