Design that sells

Shopify designers for UK brands

A Shopify designer decides how your store looks and how people move through it to buy. Here is work we designed, and what a UK store has to get right.

Does your store's design work for UK shoppers?

Six checks. The first five come from UK rules and regulators. Tick what your store already does.

What your store already does

Goods sold to consumers must show a price that includes VAT, close to the product. Business Companion

Charges a shopper can't avoid, including mandatory delivery, must be shown with the price, not added late. CMA guidance

Shoppers can cancel up to 14 days after delivery, and you must tell them. GOV.UK

A cookie banner has to make refusing as easy as agreeing. ICO

The Equality Act covers services on a website. Keyboard use and clear contrast are where we start. EHRC code

Good practice, not a rule. People want to know when it arrives before they buy.

Where design wins or loses the sale

Each page has one job. This is what we look at first on a store.

A Bailey & Jools product page on a phone, designed by us
Homepage
Says what you sell and who it is for in the first screen, then sends people to the right collection.
Collection pages
Help people narrow things down fast, with filters that match how they shop.
Product pages
Answer the last doubts near the button: price, delivery, returns and reviews.
Cart
Shows the full cost early, so nobody meets a surprise at checkout.
Phones
Most of this happens on a small screen, so we design phone and desktop page by page.

A theme, or a custom design?

Many new stores don't need a custom design. Here is how to tell.

  1. A Theme Store theme

You are starting out, your range is simple, and a good layout matters more than being different.

Spend on photos and copy first.

  2. A customised theme

A theme is close, but a few pages need to work harder for your products.

Keep the theme, change what sells.

  3. A custom design

Your brand has to stand apart, or your products need pages no theme offers.

Research, Figma, then a custom theme.

Designer, developer, or both?

A designer plans what people see. A developer makes it work. On Shopify the two jobs meet in the theme.

A designer
Research, page plans and every screen in FigmaWhen your store works but doesn't sell or look right
A developer
Theme code, apps and integrationsWhen you already have designs, or a feature to add
Both, as one team
A design and a theme built to matchWhen you want a new store with one person answering for it

How a design project runs

  1. Step 1:

    Call and research

A written scope with a fixed price

  2. Step 2:

Wireframes and every page in Figma

The whole store designed and approved

  3. Step 3:

A custom theme your team can edit

A store your team runs day to day

How this looks with a UK brand

The Dog Nutritionist's homemade dog food calculator page, asking how much the dog weighs, how old it is and how active

The Dog Nutritionist came to us for priority support on its marketing plans. We design and build new product pages and calculators that fit the existing theme, run A/B tests, and talk with its team almost daily.

UK design questions, answered

What does a Shopify designer do?

They research your customers and competitors, plan each page, and design the store for desktop and mobile. Then a developer builds that design as a theme.

Do I need a custom design or a theme?

A theme from the Shopify Theme Store is enough for many new stores. A custom design pays when your brand needs to stand out, or when a theme can't show your products the way they sell.

Can my team edit the store afterwards?

Yes. We build every section with its settings in Shopify's theme editor, so your team can change text, images and products, and build new pages.

Are you based in the UK?

No. We are based in Varna and Sofia, Bulgaria, and work with UK brands remotely, 2 hours ahead of London. The Dog Nutritionist is our UK client.

How long does a Shopify design take?

It depends on how many pages the store needs, so you get the timeline in writing with your scope, after the free call and research.

How much does a Shopify design cost?

It depends on the store, so you get a fixed price in writing after a free call and research. We don't publish a build price.
